Rather have a site that just works?
I build fast, simple websites for practices and small businesses. Fixed prices: $80 for a landing page, $125 for a 5-page site, $165 with 3 months of hosting and updates. The demo practice sites I build score 98 to 100 for performance in Google's Lighthouse test.
What the check looks at
It loads your page once from my server in Europe, the way a fast visitor or a search engine would, and looks at the basics that matter most for a small business site.
| Check | Points | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| HTTPS | 15 | Without it, browsers show "Not secure" next to your address. It also checks that http:// sends people to https://. |
| Load time | 20 | How long the HTML takes to arrive. Under a second is great, over 3 seconds is slow. A slow start often means slow hosting or a heavy theme. |
| Page weight | 15 | The HTML plus the images, styles and scripts on the page. Under 1 MB is good. Big photos are the usual problem. |
| Compression | 5 | Whether the server sends the page zipped (gzip or Brotli). It's a free speed win. |
| Mobile viewport | 10 | The tag that tells phones to show a mobile layout. Most of your visitors are on a phone. |
| Page title | 10 | The blue link in Google. It should say what you do, and where. |
| Meta description | 10 | The short text under that link. A good one gets more clicks. |
| Main heading | 5 | One clear H1 tells visitors and search engines what the page is about. |
| robots.txt | 5 | A small file for search engines. It also catches the classic mistake of blocking the whole site. |
| Sitemap | 5 | A list of your pages so Google finds them faster. |
If the page tells search engines not to index it, the score is capped at 40, because then it won't show up in Google at all.
What it doesn't do
This isn't a full browser test. It doesn't run JavaScript or measure Core Web Vitals, and it only counts the first 30 files on the page. For a full lab test, use Google's free PageSpeed Insights (opens in a new tab). This check is for a quick look at the basics, and most small business sites fail at least one of them.
Privacy
The address you enter goes to my server, which fetches that page, its robots.txt, its sitemap and the files it loads, then sends the results back to your browser. I don't save the address or the results, and they don't end up in my logs. There are no trackers or third-party scripts on this site. You can check a few sites every 10 minutes.
