Checklist

What a hair salon website needs

People don't read a salon website, they scan it. What does a cut cost, are you open Thursday night, who's good with curls, where do I book? If they find that in ten seconds, they book. If not, they open the next salon. Here's a checklist for your own site.

The checklist

1. Prices people can read

  • Cuts, colour and treatments with a price or a 'from' price.
  • One line on what makes colour cost more, such as length, thickness or extra time.
  • Prices on the page itself, not in a PDF or a photo of your price board.

2. Booking

  • A book button that stays in view on a phone and opens the booking app you already use.
  • A call button for people who'd rather phone.
  • Your cancellation and late arrival rules, short and friendly, before people book.

3. What you do

  • Your treatments in plain words, from a quick trim to balayage, curls or a bridal updo.
  • Photos of your own work, with permission from the clients in them.
  • Who does what, and on which days.

4. Hours and location

  • Opening hours, late evenings and Saturdays, plus holidays.
  • Address, parking and public transport.
  • A route link that opens in the visitor's own map app.

5. Small things that help

  • Gift cards, if you sell them, and how to buy one.
  • A link to your Instagram if that's where your newest work is.
  • Real reviews only, with name, source and date.

Common mistakes

  • No prices at all, so people phone to ask or don't bother.
  • The booking link hidden at the bottom of the contact page.
  • Opening hours that still show last summer's schedule.
  • A slow site full of large photos that takes ages to load on a phone.

FAQ

Short answers

What should be on a hair salon website?

A price list, a booking button, opening hours, what you do, who works there, your cancellation rule and how to find you.

Should I put prices on my salon website?

Yes. People want to know roughly what they'll pay before they book. For colour and longer treatments a 'from' price with a short explanation works well.

How much does a hair salon website cost?

With me, $80 for one page, $125 for 3 pages in two languages and $165 for up to 5 pages. Hosting is $25 or $49 a month.

Can I keep my current booking app?

Yes. The book buttons link to the salon app or online calendar you already use. A full embed depends on the system.
