Why stack detection matters
Lead lists and competitor sheets get better when you know the stack. A Shopify store needs a different pitch than a custom Next.js site. Analytics and chat widgets tell you how mature the marketing setup is. You can spot that from the public homepage in seconds if you look in the right places.
What you can read from a public page
- CMS and ecommerce: WordPress, Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Webflow and similar fingerprints in paths, cookies or generator tags.
- Analytics and ads: Google Analytics / gtag, Google Tag Manager, Meta Pixel, LinkedIn Insight and other script hosts.
- Frameworks and JS: React, Vue, Next.js, Nuxt and common CDN script patterns.
- CDN and hosting hints: Cloudflare, Fastly, Netlify, Vercel headers and asset hosts.
- Chat and support widgets: Intercom, Drift, Zendesk, HubSpot chat and similar embeds.
What you should not chase: anything behind a login, admin panels, customer data, or scraping that ignores robots.txt.
A small manual check
- Open the homepage in a browser.
- View source and search for known script hosts and generator tags.
- Look at response headers (server, via, cf-ray, x-powered-by).
- Note ecommerce cues: /cart, /products.json, Shopify CDN paths.
Fine for five URLs. Painful for a hundred domains you want in a CRM column tonight.
Automating it
A polite script can GET each URL, parse HTML and headers, match a fixed fingerprint list, and write one dataset row per site. Keep concurrency low, set a timeout, and skip sites that refuse bots.
Want to run it yourself?
Rather run it yourself? My Actor on the Apify Store, pay per use: Website Tech Stack Enricher (opens in a new tab). Paste a list of public websites and get CMS, ecommerce, analytics, frameworks, CDN and chat signals in one dataset. Pricing is $0.008 per site with at least one detection. Unreachable or empty rows are free. Public pages only, no personal data.
Also useful next to it: the Shopify and Woo price monitor (opens in a new tab), Clutch / G2 / Capterra pack (opens in a new tab), and all my Actors (opens in a new tab).
If you'd rather get a spreadsheet
Need a cleaned Excel or Google Sheet for a fixed URL list instead of running Apify yourself? Email studio@kayorama.nl or use the quote form. Same rules: public tech signals only, no personal lead scraping.
